FAQs
I am happy to work with anyone that needs support with medical and scientific writing. That includes researchers and professionals in academia and industry, medical professionals, conference organizers, and more. That covers and includes several types of documents. Feel free to inquire whether I might be able to help with you.
1
Who do you work with?
What areas of science and medicine do you specialize in?
2
With a background in biochemistry, cell biology and neuroscience, I have a very broad understanding of biological sciences that also includes molecular biology, metabolism and physiology. I have helped academic researchers within my specific fields but also medical doctors specialized in liver disease and radiology, for example.
Do you work with clients outside Switzerland?
3
Yes, I work with clients world-wide. I am happy to discuss a project over phone calls or online meetings. I am located in Basel, so if you are near the area, I am also happy to meet in person.
What is it like to work with you? What can I expect from the editing or consulting process?
4
Our first meeting is a courtesy (no charge) to discuss your particular needs for your project or workshop and how I could best help you. If you like the ideas I may propose, we can create a plan on how to get started and target deadlines. I try to keep the client updated on progress and also expect feedback on my work so I can improve it and deliver the best possible outcome. I work on specific sections of documents also, if that is what you need, rather than a full document. And I can help at any stage: early planning phase or only when you already have a draft.
Do you offer strategic feedback as well as language editing?
5
Yes – based on project discussions, I am happy to provide strategic feedback for writing strategy, to develop the best way to tell the story of your scientific and medical discoveries. And I also provide language editing as the writing develops. I can do both for grant and fellowship proposals, manuscripts for publication, and theses and dissertations.
Who are the workshops designed for?
6
I have workshop programs for bachelor, masters and doctorate students, as well as PhD level professionals. I always include the basics of scientific writing with grammar and style, as well as ethical use of AI, interactive exercises and case studies. The programs are very adaptable to the specific audience and level of experience, in academia or industry.
Do you offer workshops online, in person, or both?
7
Both – I can adapt the programs for in person or online lectures.
What languages do you communicate in?
8
I am bilingual in English and Portuguese, and have intermediate level German (hopeful to reach fluency soon!).
I can communicate in English and Portuguese and some German, to provide support and discuss your project. I have been developing my skills in scientific writing in English for 23 years. I can translate and adapt scientific content to English, and I understand the writing challenges faced by scientists and researchers that are non-native English speakers, to achieve good scientific writing.
The workshops are held in English or Portuguese, currently, but I hope to also offer than in German in the future.
